Alley 33 Fashion Event
First Annual Event Makes Summer Fashion Sustainable
For all the lovers of sustainable fashion for summer and beyond, this ones for you! The First Annual Alley 33 Fashion Show was a crowd pleasure yesterday evening with a variety of local designers from all over the Portland Area. The fashion show featured nineteen designers with their own unique brand of fashion. From the day to the evening, and spring to winter; these fashions stretch through the year with various colors and styles.

Presented by Mag-Big, Siren Nation Breedom Public Sewing house, this fashion show was created to show “Sustainability through Support of Local Production”. By displaying these different garments, local men and women were able to see the fashions designers commitment to the “buy local” lifestyle and contribute to their community rather than big name fashion designers. Many of the materials that went into designing these garments were recycled fabrics and very organic materials by nature. One of the designers, Moonwoods Eyewear, had different styles of frames created out of different types of wood making each crafted pair unique to the client.
All garments were designed and constructed by these local artists and brought together to one event to display the extraordinary talent and mind sets of the designers in the hopes to heighten awareness to sustainable fashion. The alley way located on Se Hawthorne and 33rd was reconstructed into an urban style runway for the models to strut their stuff and show off this years newest local designer pieces.
With all the great designers and fashionistas we have in Portland, Alley 33 could become a larger event having shows across the Portland area. Will this be a yearly event? I hope so, with the best intentions in mind, the producers and sponsors of this sustainable fashion show could help to create a very popular trend among the hip portland crowd.
