Artists Rep is kicking off their 2013/2014 season with The Big Meal by Dan LeFranc, directed by new Artistic Director Dámaso Rodriguez.  The play is set in a quintessential American restaurant, and follows the lives of a family from birth to the very end.  The audience gets to watch as this multi-generational potluck of characters live life’s major and minor moments around the meal table.

The unique format of The Big Meal allows the dialogue of all 26 characters (covering 5 generations) to flow and overlap much like conversations do at any family’s kitchen table.  With a length of 80 minutes and a cast of only 8 actors, the show is a serious undertaking.  The complexity of life is reflected in how the play is told. Artistic Director Rodriguez explains, “This play speaks to universal things that if told traditionally would be prosaic but in this condensed form really looks at the whole of life in a very interesting and all-encompassing way.”
