Downtown Portland was full of delicious smells this weekend for the annual Bite of Oregon Festival in Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The event allowed the state’s restaurants, trucks, win 2000 eries, and more to show locals that Portland isn’t the only city in Oregon with great food.

A beautiful summer weekend brought out a great crowd, eager for free samples and refreshments for hot afternoons. Tents stretched from the Morrison Bridge with a wide, diverse arrangement of food, with plenty of classic festival dishes done in various styles. There were plenty of indulgent choices for dessert, such as extravagant cakes from Salem bakery Konditorei and a range of local ice creams at the Portlandia Ice Cream Parlor. Craft beer gardens showcased some of the state’s most notorious breweries, while an entire section was devoted to northwestern wineries.

Some notable Portland establishments present were the Rogue Brewery restaurant and KoiFusion taco truck. While the vast majority of wares were from Oregon, there were a few selections from cities in Washington, including Seattle and Vancouver, as well as two specialty businesses from Ohio.

A bounty of great food was not all Bite of Oregon had to offer, as it hosted four stages for live music throughout the weekend. Each night also saw an Iron Chef Oregon competition, in which chefs from all over the state went head to head to create the best meal for judges. Bite of Oregon was a great way to experience some of the west coast’s best food and drink without leaving Portland. With its wide coverage of the area’s establishments, the festival gave locals a chance to escape through delicious and unique food.
