Burgerville Records’ Second Benefit CD "Rise and Shine" Set to Release in September
Double Disc to benefit the Sunshine Division and Local Emergency Food Relief
Burgerville Records is proud to announce the upcoming release of its second benefit album RISE & SHINE. Proceeds will be donated to the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division and other local emergency food relief agencies. RISE & SHINE will be available exclusively after Labor Day at all its 39 restaurants in Oregon and Southwest Washington while limited supplies last.
RISE & SHINE showcases Northwest musicians and bands on two compact discs, each with 20 tracks of music. The double discs contain 40 songs totaling more than two hours of music, and will be available for only $12. The CD also includes valuable coupons to Burgerville (buy one, get one offers on signature items like the Pepper Bacon Cheeseburger and Seasonal Milkshakes) and Oaks Park (buy one, get one roller skate session).
The SHINE disc featuresThe Dandy Warhols, Blind Pilot, Blitzen Trapper, Floater, Horse Feathers, Perhapst (John Moen of The Decemberists), Minus 5, Pink Martini and many more established, renowned bands. The RISE disc showcases emerging local talent including Sara Jackson-Holman, Casey Neill & The Norway Rats, Crown Point, Parson Red Heads, Kasey Anderson & The Honkies, and The Usual Suspects (led by Portland Police Chief Mike Reese). The majority of the artists featured on both discs are signed to major music labels and prominent Indie labels.
“Burgerville is committed to supporting our local communities where we live and work,” said Burgerville CEO Jeff Harvey. “We believe music is an expression of creative vitality of our community. We see this benefit album as a way for our guests, in partnership with our restaurants, to support local musicians and artists, as well as those who desperately need emergency food relief.”
The need for food is increasing and hovers at record levels. In an average month, 85,800 children eat meals from emergency food boxes in Portland alone. Poverty, growing levels of long-term unemployment and low wages are forcing more families in the Portland Metropolitan area to seek food assistance.
“The number of families we serve directly has doubled in the past two years,” explained Sunshine Division Executive Director Kyle Camberg. “We are honored that Burgerville and the bands have selected us and our partner agencies to benefit from the sales of this CD to help fight hunger.”
"I'm super happy to be a part of this release, benefitting Portland Sunshine Division," commented singer-songwriter McDougall, who is featured on the RISE disc. "What they do is so direct, selfless, and needed."
"The absolute worst thing about going on tour is that once we leave the Northwest, I am forced to abstain from Burgerville's Spicy Anasazi Bean Burgers for weeks on end,” explained Crown Point's Jon Davidson, showcased on the RISE disc. “So, getting involved with Burgerville was a no-brainer, and we're excited about helping out the Portland Sunshine Division at the same time, because what they do for the community is much-needed and they help a lot of people each year.”
"Floater and Typhon Records are excited to be part of something so positive," said Floater front man Robert Wynia, who appears on the SHINE disc. "Our support for the work of the Sunshine Division is heartfelt, as is our support for Burgerville's use of locally sourced ingredients.”
"Sassparilla is super excited to be part of a program that supports our community and social infrastructure," remarked Sassparilla mastermind Kevin Blackwell, featured on the SHINE disc. "Kudos to Burgerville, who is already so supportive of our local vendors and farmers for again putting community over fiscal McThinking."
