OMSI After Dark, Teen Night, and More
OMSI, the Oregon Museum of Sciece and Industry has some exciting events during October. With a new exhibit, Clever Together: Our Everyday Choices, a teen night, archaeology day, and OMSI After Dark, this month is packed with fun for the curious minded.
Clever Together: Our Everyday Choices
Opens October 7, 2012
Small, sustainable actions make a big impa 2000 ct when adopted by the hundreds, thousands, or even the hundreds of thousands! That’s the message OMSI hopes to impart on visitors to its new, permanent bilingual exhibit, Clever Together: Our Everyday Choices or Juntos somos ingeniosos: Una decisión a la vez. Opening in the museum’s revamped Earth Hall this October, Clever Together will encourage guests to weigh the environmental, economic and social impacts of their choices. It will feature engaging interactive displays centered on topics such as food, transportation, product consumption, and energy use. Visitors are invited to use “human power” to take a virtual walk or bike-ride through familiar places in the Portland metro region, employ smart sorting tactics to divert waste from landfills, and find ways to save energy in a funky room furnished with everyday home appliances and personal electronics. The price of the exhibit is included in paid museum admission. Members are free.\

Oregon Archaeology Day
Saturday, October 20, 2012
National Archaeology Day is a day for organizations across the U.S. and Canada and around the world to raise awareness of archaeology and provide opportunities for the public to participate in archaeological activities. Above all, it’s a day that emphasizes the idea that archaeology is everywhere! October is Oregon’s Archaeology Month, and OMSI has plans to help celebrate it! On October 20, 2012, visitors of the museum will have an opportunity to learn about this unique science through hands-on activities, like rock art tracing, and on-site demonstrations, such as flint knapping. There will also be a table set up with information about Oregon Archaeology Month and the Oregon Archaeology Society. Please visit the website at www.omsi.edu for more information coming soon.
