Supersuckers @Doug Fir
With Mountain Sprout
What I thought would to be a quiet night at the Doug Fir Lounge became a real rock & roll event that would be for the books with musical performance by the Supersuckers and Mountain Sprout.
First up was Mountain Sprout 2000 . These guys brought a little taste of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and sprinkled it around the lounge, and everyone seemed to be eating up. It was by far one most fun and yet entertaining performances that I’ve seen. With the banjo picking and the fiddle burning, the hillbilly-country sound echoed through the lounge was irresistible to not get up dance to or at least tap you foot to the beat. It was sure going to be party. Drinking and picking their way through the night, each song brought you back to Arkansas with stories of country living and beer drinking, which made you realize that these guys were the real deal. The funny thing to me is that although these guys were hillbilly folk, they were true musicians. Putting a stunning performance with the fiddle, banjo, guitar, and stand-up bass. These guys played with incredible talent and literally played so hard their instruments were falling to pieces. A very astonishing performance by the good ole’ country band really set in the mood for a rock & roll time with Supersuckers.
The band members started warming up as the crowd lingered through waiting patiently for their leader, Eddie Spaghetti. Crowd started off with a roar, as disco ball began turning and the rock began churning. The self proclaimed the “Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band in the World” was somewhat of a true statement. Band members Dan “Thunder” Bulton and “Metal” Marty Chandler on guitar and back-up vocals and Christopher “Chango” Von Streicher on drums, all played to perfection with a classic rock sound to remember. These guys definitely knew how to put on a performance. The southern rock & cowpunk sounding band have many albums dating all the way back from 1992, albums such as the Smoke of Hell, The Sacrilicious Sounds of the Supersuckers, and Mus’ve Been High. The band played an array of fan loving songs, and at the end of every song, Eddie Spaghetti ritually lifted up his guitar and played a rift before closing with his hands in the air in admiration. It was awesome. Supersuckers put on a show in Portland, and it was just one of their many stop on a long country tour. Next up George, Washington at The Gorge!
