Young Turks @Backspace

With Unrestrained, The Globalist and More

Backspace Café hosted the record release party for Young Turks. It was a fast paced, Hawaiian shirt wearing show ($1 off for anyone who was wearing one). The night followed as such:

Opening the night is a band called Habits. The four members are displeased with the relaxedness of the crowd so the singer jumps in to crowd with an effort to get a pit going. Things kick off from here on out. Habits is fast paced, hard metal sound.  The singer stays in the crowd to mingle with the fans for the duration of their set, which ends up being somewhat short.

Next up is The Globalist. The have a sound similar to Habits, although slightly slower. The singer for The Globalist follows suit and sings within the crowd. Throughout the show the pit gets larger and more violent. The two guitar players are a great sight, feeding off each other’s energy and going with their sound really well.

The preface for the headliner is Unrestrained. These guys seem to be the most recognize, as almost half of the people in front row know the band members. They have a very refined sound, but still fast and maybe a little bit punk. Towards the end of the set, one of their guitar players breaks a string and while attempting to replace it, his band mates heckle him. Unrestrained brought the most comedy to the night and definitely contributed good music to a great show.

And the one’s you came to see, Young Turks. The headliners take the night, with a full-fledged pit, complete with front row fans who know the lyrics, and a singer who is glad to give up the microphone for his fans to yell into. The drummer is amazing to watch. He’s crazy fast, but somehow keeps perfect tempo, and the instrumentals are really unique. It’s hard to compare them to anyone so you’ll have to listen for yourself. All in all, the four bands were awesome to see and listen to. See them if you get the chance!
