A New Dining Option on the West End

On  Monday, Oct 29, Cheryl’s on 12th Marketplace and Café opened its doors to gourmet shoppers and hungry diners in downtown Portland’s booming West End District. Cheryl’s on 12th is a locally owned marketplace, café and catering company offering a wide selection of gourmet foods both to-go, and for dining in. This is another great development in for the West End, as talented chefs and businesses ar 2000 e investing in formerly empty storefronts
 
“After years of working in the food industry we thought is was time to establish a place that reflected our taste and personality, “ said co-owner Ed Casey. “We came to the West End because we felt our European style marketplace and casual style of New American cuisine would be a perfect fit for this growing section of downtown.”
 
The café at Cheryl’s on 12th will feature fresh baked sweet and savory pastries, local coffee, full menu of entrees and daily specials. The marketplace will showcase specialty retail items from local food artisans as well as imports from around the world, like gourmet cheeses, olives, chocolates, beer and wine. 
 
Located on the corner of SW Washington and 12th Avenue, Cheryl’s floor to ceiling glass walls will offer diners a prime seat to take in the sights of the bustling West End neighborhood over breakfast, lunch, dinner or a weekend brunch.
 
Café dine-in and take-out options will include dishes like a fig, goat cheese and arugula sandwich or entrees like the glazed pork tenderloin. For lunch, menu items like a three-item combo include mini sandwiches, fresh salads like zucchini ribbons and pine nuts or soups like pumpkin spice soup The café will also offer wines by the glass, bottled beer, Portland Roasting Company coffee and Steven Smith Teamaker teas, along with a variety of other specialty beverages.
 
“We’ll be serving traditional staples, as well signatures dishes we’ve developed over the years,” explained co-owner and Chief Culinary Officer (CCO) Cheryl Casey. “We’ll have a broad range of choices including  full breakfast, sandwiches and wraps,  salads, plated entrees and lots of appetizers and sides.”
 
Cheryl’s on 12th’s bakery will feature Kristina Montaine, who brings a talent for pastry to the market and café. She will be filling the pastry case with daily baked cakes, cookies and tarts. Her talent and experience show in everything she creates, from gluten-free pastries, to beignets to potato chip cookies.
 
Cheryl’s on 12th also offers catering through its sister company, As Good As It Gets Catering, which operates from a new state of the art kitchen housed in the same building. From a small office luncheon to a sophisticated and polished high-end event, the catering team guides clients through every step in the process of designing a custom experience. The staff takes pride in high-touch customer service, attention to detail and, most importantly, providing flavorful wholesome food.
 
With the opening of Cheryl’s on 12th, the West End is quickly becoming a food destination. Cheryl and Ed Casey bring their and experiences and enthusiasm to their business, giving downtown another great food option and bringing new life to the corner of SW 12th and Washington.
