The Heathman Hotel and The Heathman Restaurant and Bar will host Portland’s 11th Annual Beaujolais Nouveau Festival on Friday, Nov. 16. The event, present 2000 ed by the French-American Chamber of Commerce and the Alliance Française of Portland, will begin at 6 p.m. in The Heathman Restaurant and Bar’s Tea Court and the rooms on the mezzanine level of The Heathman Hotel.

Celebrating the release of Beaujolais Nouveau has become a global tradition, with bars and restaurants around the world racing to be the first to serve the new wine that, according to French law, cannot be sold before midnight on the third Thursday of November. “Beaujolais Nouveau is bottled and ready to drink just six to eight weeks after harvest,” said Anthony Garcia, sommelier for the Heathman Restaurant and Bar, “so it’s a fun, fruity, easy-to-drink wine.”

Guests at the Portland festival will enjoy Beaujolais Nouveau brought in from French vineyards like Joseph Drouhin, and select wines from Terroirs Originels, as well as from Oregon and Washington wineries, including WillaKenzie Estate Winery and Pacific Rim Winemakers. The tastings will be complemented by a buffet featuring Sylvie grass-fed beef, seafood, charcuterie, cheese and desserts. The event will also include a wine and art auction. Russ Lewis of KGW News Channel 8 will serve as master of ceremonies for the evening.

General admission tickets are $70 per person. A limited number of $50 tickets are available for young professionals (ages 21-35) who are first-time attendees, and a few VIP tables seating eight are available for $1,250. The event usually sells out well in advance. To reserve tickets, visit the Beaujolais Nouveau website or e-mail linda.witt@comcast.net.
