Portland Cocktail Week Goes Hungarian

Last night spirit enthusiasts attending the 3rd annual Portland Cocktail Week were whisked away to experience one of Hungary’s best-known liqueurs – Zwack. This herbal-based liqueur is flavored with 40 herbs and spices and leaves a smoky, but sweet 2000 taste on the tongue.  In addition to this old favorite, the distiller was debuting Unicum and Unicum Plumb to the United States.

Underneath the Jupiter Hotel Dream Tent, 6th generation family member and global brand ambassador, Izabella Zwack, was on hand to toast with the crowd and welcome everyone to the House Of Zwack. Attendees drank cocktails created by mixologist Ricky Gomez, and inspired by Zwack and its new siblings.

While the crowd sipped, it was serenaded by traditional Hungarian music. To compliment such luxurious drinks, the crowd was treated to fantastic Hungarian small bites from Grüner’s Christopher Israel. Delicious drumsticks with chicken falling off the bone paired with small dumplings, and a bit of steak goulash with creamy mashed potatoes really hit the spot.

Portland Cocktail Week continues all week, with two events open to the public on Thursday -- The Pig & Punch at Yale Union starting at 11am, and America: Red, White, and Booze happening at the Jupiter Hotel Dream Tent at 8pm.
