In a report released this week by Renewable Northwest Project and highlighted by Sustainable Business Oregon, it seems that even despite tough economic times Northwest residents are willing to pay a lit 1845 tle more to support renewable energy.

The report showed that these programs increased 8.5 percent in 2010.

The report, which is called "Powerful Choices XI" and is available on the RNP website, is based on a survey of 40 voluntary green power programs being held in Idaho, Montana, Washington and Oregon.

During 2010, over 10,000 customers signed up for a green power supplier, which leaves the number of Northwest participants at over 177,000.

This number bought 1.7 billion kilowatt-hours of green power, which is estiamted to have saved around 2.2 billion pounds of carbon dioxide from being emitted.
