Portland's Unemployed Rate Has Doubled Since the Recession
Up to Over 100,000
Since the Recession hit the U.S. the unemployment rate in Portland has just about doubled.
And yet, this 94 percent increase is only the 64th biggest increase in the U.S.
According to the Portland Business Journal's On Numbers blog, between September 2007 and Septemb 1834 er 2011, Portland gained over 48,000 newly unemployed residents.
In September 2007 there were just over 51,000 out of work. Now, as of September 2011 there are over 100,00 out of work.
In the U.S., as of September, 9.04 million were unemployed, up 99.8 percent from 2007 where only 4.52 million were out of work.
In other cities, the Journal mentions that Los Angeles gained over 777,000 unemployed residents in that time period, while Boise, ID has the highest increase percentage based on its lower population but high amount of unemployed.
