Stephen McKinley Henderson in PDX for Acting Workshops
Including a Q&A Night @Portland Playhouse
The August Wilson Red Door Project is proud to bring Stephen McKinley Henderson to Portland to lead master classes for local actors on November 1st and for a public presentation on November 2nd. Henderson is known for his roles on and off Broadway, in television and film. Co 1cb6 nsidered to be among the celebrated interpreters of August Wilson’s work, he received a Tony nomination as featured actor for his work in the 2010 revival of Fences with Denzel Washington and Viola Davis.
“The essence of acting is in serving dramatic literature—great plays, and great pieces of writing—doing that in the company of generous actors who can help tell that story,” Henderson said, in an interview with the Red Door Project.
Henderson will teach two, two-hour-long classes at Portland Center Stage. The workshop will use Broadway director Lloyd Richard’s approach to text and performance and will focus on the principle that all answers regarding character, motivation and action are embedded in the text.
